Domestic workers help keep New York running.

Nannies, housekeepers, home care aides, cleaners, and caregivers support families and communities every day. Their work makes it possible for others to go to work, care for loved ones, recover from illness, raise children, and maintain their homes. Yet for decades, many domestic workers were excluded from basic workplace protections.

Many domestic workers are immigrants, women, and workers of color. Many work in private homes, often in isolated environments, with limited access to clear legal information or support. But regardless of immigration status, domestic workers in New York have rights.

Our goal is simple: to make information easy to understand, accessible, and focused on the real workplace issues domestic workers face across New York State. We also want to help employers understand their obligations so they can follow the law and avoid being caught off guard by an unexpected lawsuit. Whether you are trying to learn about overtime, wages, paid sick leave, live-in worker protections, harassment, retaliation, or time off, this site is meant to be a trusted starting point. Knowledge is protection. Every worker deserves dignity, respect, and fair treatment.

This work is deeply personal to me.

I grew up with a single mother who worked as a domestic worker. I watched her work long, grueling hours to make ends meet. The pay was often not enough, but by taking on several jobs, she did what she had to do to support our household.

When I was in high school, I also started cleaning houses to help bring in income for my family. I know how physically demanding, exhausting, and undervalued this work can be. I also know how much dignity, sacrifice, and strength it takes.

That is why these cases are not just cases to me. They are personal. They are about justice, fair work, and making sure domestic workers are treated with the respect and protection they deserve.
